Driving Simulators
Driving Simulators

The Driver Simulator features a true-to-life automobile dash with speedometer, tachometer, fuel and temperature gauges. It is proven effective in developing perceptual/cognitive skills, scanning techniques, mirror usage, critical cue recognition, decision making skills and crash avoidance strategies. It provides superior hands-on training/assessment while achieving Specific Training Objectives (STO).

Driving simulator system is the major training/testing tool for developing proper perceptual judgmental, and behavior driving skills as well as procedural and manipulative response skills. it is a laboratory component usually conducted concurrently with the other phases of driver education and/or Defensive Driving programs. It offers a variety of learning opportunities and experiences not always available and other phases of traffic safety education.

Purpose

The safe, efficient operating of a motor vehicle development of both manipulative and perceptual skills.

Simulation is a method of instruction utilizes synthetic training situations or devices to train an individual for actual performance in real situations.

Driving Simulators

Advantages

  • Provides practice under simulated adverse conditions.

  • Reduces time in the vehicle for familiarization with the controls.

  • Provides the same exposure for all drivers.

  • Enables a great number of drivers to be scheduled.

  • Helps to make on-street driving more meaningful.

  • Provides explanation and experiences that will reinforce and expand those provided in the program.

  • Provides drivers with greater variety of learning experiences.

  • Provides learning opportunities in a non-threatening environment through a developed learning sequence.

  • Develops basic driving habits.

  • Develops and strengthens visual perceptual abilities.

  • Provides necessary sensory input for future judgment and decision-making.

  • Enhances knowledge and information required for the safe operation of a vehicle.

  • Develops appropriate behavioral response patterns to potentially hazardous situations.

  • Provides more Driving Experience per hour of supervision.

  • Enhances instruction; it does not to replace the instructor or diminish instructor’s role.

  • Aids in developing good driving attitude by demonstrating safe, courteous driving practices, and by teaching drivers to respond to the situation in their simulators in correct manner.

  • Develops the understanding, judgment and skill necessary to execute basic driving Maneuvers, safely and efficiently within typically traffic situations.

  • Develops quick and accurate responses needed when faced with sudden unpredictable hazards.
